Boardwalk Empire Is Bringing Back Old School Subways

bbook:

thecorcorangroup:

Starting on Saturday, September 3rd an authentic vintage 1920’s train will run on the express 2/3 track in Manhattan throughout September (specifically, from 12 to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays). Originally operated by the Interborough Rapid Transit (IRT) system, the train began service back in 1917 and will once again be operational. Customers who have the opportunity to ride the vintage train will be transported back in time to the Prohibition era with authentic details such as rattan seats, ceiling fans and drop sash windows, as well as a custom branded interior featuring Boardwalk Empire-inspired period artwork. This might actually get me on a subway.

Infograpic of the Day: Huh.

I’m liking these Ikea ads.

I’m obsessed with Jason Lee’s incredible photography of his two adorable daughters. Creativity + cute expressive kids = photography at its finest. You can check out his photo blog of them here

I can’t figure out how he achieves perfect lighting in all his photos. For those curious, he shoots with a Canon 5D Mark II.

He has a facebook page with some before/after shots… check them out. And yes, totally love it. These kids are gonna have the best kid photos EVER. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/fbx/?set=a.124614300943712.23741.124603420944800

“Zerts” are what I call desserts. “Trey-treys” are entrees. I call sandwiches “sannies,” “sandoozles” or “Adam Sandlers.” Air conditioners are “cool blasterz,” with a “z.” (I don’t know where that came from.) I call cakes “big ol’ cookies.” I call noodles “long-ass rice.” Fried chicken is “fry-fry chicki-chick.” Chicken parm is “chicki-chicki parm-parm.” Chicken cacciatore, “chicki-catch.” I call eggs “pre-birds” or “future birds.” Root beer is “super water.” Tortillas are “bean blankies.” And I call forks “food rakes.”

I need to compile a list like this.

Thank goodness this came up on my tumblr feed. Chicki-chicki-parm-parm is my favorite.

Street Art of the Day: Last month, children’s author Aaron Zenz sat down to watch Banksy’s Exit Through the Gift Shop with his kids.
10-year-old Gracie was so inspired by the film, that she immediately declared her determination to become a street artist when she grew up. Her dad explained to her that “while the art was fun and the story was great, vandalism isn’t a good thing.” So all together they came up with a project that was artsy, stealthy, public, “and in no way damaging”:

I bought a big sack of rocks, washed them, and painted the base colors.  Then Isaac, Gracie, Lily, and I each claimed a color and decorated them with as many faces and expressions as we could thing of.  48 rocks in all. […]
Hopefully we were able to spread a little happiness to anyone who stumbled across these little guys.

Angry Birds - Letters from the Front Line

Dearest Martha, It has been some time since I’ve had the opportunity to write you, perhaps seven or eight levels. The green pigs have fortified their defenses and there seems to be no end to this madness. They are an industrious lot who have remarkable construction skills in spite of their lack of arms or legs. They’re a formidable enemy but I still envision the day we can bring our eggs home safely. Keep the nest warm for me, Yellow Bird
